5.) Pull colors from the LARGEST PATTERN
Choose the LARGEST PATTERN in the room first, be it, drapery,
upholstery fabric, oriental rug or large artwork.
Then, choose colors for the paint from a color in
the LARGEST PATTERN.
This works because colors on "portable goods" (furniture, rugs, etc.)
and are manufactured according to what colors are "in fashion."
These colors will change depending upon the "color beneath the
color." In the eighties colors had blue beneath the color, therefore
the fashionable colors at the time were mauve (a red with blue
undertones), seafoam (a green with blue undertones), etc.
Today the undertone used is yellow, so you get "sage" greens,
"hotter" reds, "lilac" blues.
By CHOOSING THE LARGEST PATTERN, it is much easier to choose
the right paint color, rather than painting a space and
trying to find the correct colors to match in the fabrics and
rugs available on the market today.
